Who we are
We are comprised of intergenerational indigenous leadership representatives of the voyaging canoes and organizations of Hawaiʻi. Our mission is to work together to elevate the collective health and life of our Voyaging traditions.
Polynesian Voyaging Society
Founded on a legacy of Pacific Ocean exploration, the Polynesian Voyaging Society seeks to perpetuate the art and science of traditional Polynesian voyaging and the spirit of exploration through experiential educational programs that inspire students and their communities to respect and care for themselves, each other, and their natural and cultural environments.
Hui o Waʻa Kaulua
In partnership with other groups, Hui O Waʻa Kaulua is committed to developing and conducting model educational programs using voyaging to excite and challenge students and their communities to learn about, respect, and care for the natural and social environment. It is our vision to have a healthy, productive, safe Hawaiʻi and planet Earth.
Nā Kālai Waʻa Moku o Hawaiʻi
Nā Kālai Waʻa Moku o Hawaiʻi is a non-profit 501c (3) organization founded in 1993 dedicated to the maintaining of cultural values and customs through the teaching and application of non instrument navigation and open ocean voyaging.
Friends of Hōkūle‘a and Hawai'iloa
Founded in 1996, the mission of the Friends of Hokule‘a & Hawai‘iloa is to perpetuate and teach the Hawaiian traditions of building, restoring, and caring for canoes.
Nā Kālai Waʻa o Kauaʻi
Founded in 1996, Nā Kālai Waʻa o Kauaʻi (NKWoK), or The Canoe Builders of Kauaʻi, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation, practice and exploration of the seafaring arts and skills of the ancient Polynesians. Starting in the late 90’s, Nā Kālai Waʻa o Kauaʻi began the construction of Nāmāhoe, Kauaʻi’s voyaging canoe, which launched in September of 2016.
